When I was a first-grade teacher in a public school, Valentine’s day was one of my most dreaded days. The process of organizing 24 six-year-olds in the passing out of Valentine cards and candy always resulted in a headache. But then I became a stay-at-home-girl-mom and pretty soon Valentine’s Day become one of my favorite days of the year. My most memorable one was when Wade and I didn’t have the money to buy Valentine’s for my oldest’s preschool class. So we sat down and hand-cut twenty red construction paper hearts and took a black sharpie to write, God is Love on each one.
Its memories, time and the act of giving that often show love the most. It’s the action that becomes most tainted in the world but yet can bring the most beauty to each individual that is lucky enough to give it and receive it. I believe that is why it is the greatest commandment and the greatest gift we’ve been given.
Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.1 Corinthians 13:13
Here is a little Valentine’s Freebie just for you.
My hope is that you will do it with your kids, give it to someone who needs encouragement or hang in your home as a reminder that love is your greatest possession that you can give freely.
